Instrument clusters in vehicles are getting more and more intelligent, while at the same time, more and more functionalities are being integrated, mainly depending on the individual requirements. The size and quality of implemented displays are increasing in order to display more precisely indications for navigation, infotainment (including radio), monitoring cameras, driver assistance information as well as basic alarm functions, such as the driver's door having been left open.

Consequentially, it is only a matter of time until conventional instrument clusters will be replaced by fully graphical display solutions. In this respect, the automotive industry calls for flexibility. The fast-paced increase in model ranges and drive concepts, such as Hybrid, Electric or Hydrogen, calls for new priorities regarding specific display indications.

With uniVIEWSYS, we have already developed a second-generation FPK (user-programmable instrument cluster), specially designed not only for the future requirements in the automotive industry, but also for various other industrial applications. The concept is simple: display virtually all necessary and possible indications as required, while integrating switching and control functions without any major hardware adaptations.

The core piece of FPK is a 10.2" TFT colour display with an underlying display-sized printed circuit board of minimal installation depth.

The system is designed in such a way so that a total of three further TFT colour displays can be integrated and individually fed with a variety of display indications. This offers the possibility to display the information needed or requested in the correct place on each display. An optional touchscreen control panel allows for the setting of the display system, including the positioning of display indications as well as for the control of vehicle functions and vehicle accessory components.

uniVIEWSYS FPK is user-programmable and by only making slight changes to the hardware, the system can be adapted to a large variety of vehicle concepts, makes, models and also to the requirements of vehicle manufacturers - an essential advantage in saving development time and costs.

We are in the position to find an ideal solution for various electronic and electrical vehicle concepts, including bus systems. We implement the necessary changes and tests to verify the system?s functionality following its integration. If required, an adapted configuration program can be developed and provided by strictly taking into consideration the requirements for its approval in the respective countries, especially in terms of the main display.

Depending on the default setting, end users can adjust settings and make modifications to the display. For example, this concerns the different designs on the main display along with colour settings.

On request, we also create customized display designs or adapt the system to the vehicle types on the market.

UPC meets the rigorous approval requirements of the automotive industry. This encompasses a design suitable for an extended temperature range, shock and vibrations as well as climatic changes.

In order to guarantee the display of alarm functions when the ignition is off, UPC comes with up to 10 LED displays. With their help, indicators for the hazard warning lights can even be displayed in this case.

Besides the conventional use in passenger cars and utility vehicles, uniVIEWSYS proves to be very versatile, especially in fields where bus systems are implemented and a wide range of information needs to be displayed and evaluated, and at the same time, allowing for high flexibility in terms of display management. Naturally, operating data can be displayed, evaluated and saved.

Concerning particular requirements of OEMs, uniVIEWSYS UPC forms the basis for purely customer-specific solutions in terms of both hardware and software development.
